Discipleship is learning to follow Jesus, much in the same fashion that he took 12 ordinary men and taught them what it meant to live in God, for God, and with God.
How we do that today is taught through the missions and small groups we serve alongside. It is more than bible studies, mission trips, and going to church on Sunday. Discipleship is applying God’s principles, given through Jesus, to love God and to love our neighbors every day.
Jesus told his disciples in John 15 “I appoint you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last…I am giving you these commands so that you love one another.”
In order to bear this fruit that will last, we must spend time with each other, for each other, learning how to care for one another.
We gather to learn life as God wants us to live. Sometimes it is with people like us…sometimes with people different. Regardless, our purpose is to hear and obey when Jesus says, “Follow Me!”
